Innovation in the heart of nature: The first predator-proof fence in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship

We are proud to announce that products from the Horizont Rolos brand have become a key element of a groundbreaking nature conservation project carried out by the ALAUDA Nature Society. In the vicinity of the Rakutowskie Lake Nature Reserve, the country’s fourth—and the first in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship—professional anti-predator fence has been erected.

A Shared Goal: Protecting Biodiversity

The mission of the ALAUDA Nature Society is to preserve biodiversity through the protection and restoration of the natural environment. As a company committed to ecological balance, we could not imagine a better application for our electric fencing systems.

The old wooden horse stable in Krzewent is now a thing of the past. It has been replaced by a modern structure that protects something extremely valuable—the nesting grounds of rare shorebirds, such as lapwings, snipes, and redshanks.

A design based on expertise and quality

The fence, over 2,200 meters long, spans 18 hectares of wet meadows. To create an impassable barrier against ground predators (foxes, American minks, or raccoons), precisely selected components from the Horizont Rolos range were used:

  • Durable ropes and braids: Five rows of polyethylene fiber braids ensure mechanical durability.
  • Contrasting tapes: Two rows of black-and-white tapes increase the visibility of the barrier.
  • Reliable energizers: At the heart of the system is an energizer that delivers high voltage, effectively deterring predators from attempting to breach the fence.
  • Specialized insulators: They guarantee the stability of the fence’s electrical parameters in difficult, wet terrain.

Why does this solution work?

The project would not have been possible without the exchange of expertise with the Polish Society for the Protection of Birds (PTOP) and the support of EU funds and WWF Poland. The fence eliminates pressure from ground-based predators without posing an obstacle to roe deer or red deer. As a result, ground-nesting birds have a chance to raise their broods safely, which in previous seasons—under immense predator pressure—was nearly impossible.

We are proud that Horizont Rolos technology provides tangible support for active nature conservation efforts. Together with the ALAUDA Society, we are demonstrating that sustainable development is not just a slogan, but concrete action to save endangered species.

The initiative was carried out as part of the project “Bird Meadows – Continuation of Active Conservation Measures for Endangered Species in the Błota Rakutowskie and Błota Kłócieńskie Natura 2000 Site.”
